Dr Hollie Cockings
Dr Hollie Cockings is a Senior Lecturer in Materials Engineering within the College of Engineering, Swansea University and is a Tata Steel UK sponsored academic. Hollie’s research interests vary in breadth, but her main focus tends to lie within the area of surface science and engineering. She has an expertise in environmental degradation, which includes high temperature corrosion-fatigue, hot corrosion, oxidation and hydrogen embrittlement; surface interactions and advanced characterisation in structural metals. In addition, she has experience in the mechanical properties of materials, fatigue and failure analysis. More recently, Hollie has been exploring new research interests in reducing environmental impact during primary steelmaking processes; this includes the supervision of doctoral students managing the effects of gaseous and particulate emissions during sintering and blast furnace operation and also reutilisation of plant waste streams.
Hollie is currently academic Project Manager of the EPSRC Rapid Alloy Prototyping Prosperity Partnership, working alongside Tata Steel and Warwick Manufacturing group, which aims to accelerate the innovation cycle of steel products by creating a novel alloy development and process optimisation method. She is also a Co-Investigator on the SUSTAIN Manufacturing Hub project, acting as an early career researcher champion and mentor.
